ANY QUESTIONS?
THESE ARE THE ONES WE GET ASKED MOST...
Knife - as "in knife and fork"... Ton - as in "heavy? It weighed a ton!"
We welcome well-behaved dogs on a short lead in both our bar area and dining room. If booking a table for food then let us know if you wish to bring your dog - it helps us with our table planning!
We have some parking at the front of the pub and there
are no restrictions to parking on Main Street through the village - please park
sensibly regarding pedestrians and access for our neighbours.
Please do not park at the front of the pub if you are not on the premises or leave
your car overnight without prior consent.
Ashbourne Community Transport have now taken over the running of the 110 and 111 buses linking Ashbourne with Wirksworth and Matlock with a bus-stop right outside the pub - listed as The Red Lion or Kniveton Smithy - Check the time-tables at Ashbourne Community Transport web site or track the bus on a live map at www.bustimes.org
Alternatively, Kniveton is also covered by The Derbyshire Connect bus service - run by Ashbourne Community Transport - it's a flexible bus service with no fixed route or timetable so pick up times and destinations can be planned to suit the needs of where passengers have stated they want to travel to and from on booking.

DON'T think you'll be able to just grab an
Uber!
Although you
may get lucky and find a nearby driver, their coverage of rural Derbyshire is
very limited.
We recommend Village Taxis based in Ashbourne - always reliable but with only a
few cars they do get busy at peak times so always best to book in
advance.
Call them on  01335 418080.
We do not offer accommodation*. There are a number of properties within walking distance of the pub that offer self-catering accommodation, from cosy little cottages to large houses suitable for groups - search AirBnB or various Holiday Cottage booking sites using the post-code DE6 1JH.
(*The pub has offered rooms in the past and is still listed on some booking sites which we have no control over!)
There are two local camp sites within a 15-20 minute walk of the pub.
Unfortunately not - we have looked into it but given the space we have it's a non-starter. However, both our local camp sites have pitches for camper vans.
We have outdoor seating at the front of the pub and a small secluded garden at the rear of the pub (not open all year and no food is served in the garden).
For us each method have advantages, disadvantages and
costs...
We do accept cards and contactless payments and continue to take cash with no
plans to stop. We can also take payments for deposits online or over the phone.
Enjoy it!... but if you really need to check for an email or have a severe FOMO then we have full fibre and happy to share the bandwidth through the free WiFi!
